PAX 2008

Rosemary Jones, Bruce Cordell, and I made a signing appearance at PAX 2008 on Saturday at 3 p.m., signing and handing out our Dungeons novels (3 out of 4 of the series). Many thanks to all who came by, and I hope you enjoy the (free!) books!

For all who came, don't forget to check out my previous novel Ghostwalker, Bruce's stuff (including Lady of Poison and at least one I'm forgetting), and our upcoming novels: The Abolethic Sovereignty series (Bruce, first book in December), Downshadow (me, April), and City of the Dead (Rosemary, June/July).

A couple of anecdotes:

I can be somewhat social and talkative at signings, and when that happens I tend to ramble on. RJ, BC, and I all started off with the same number of books to sign and hand out (which was around 60 free copies), and yet for some reason twenty-five minutes into the signing, Rj was down to 2 left, BC around 5-6, and I had about 20. In BC's words: "less talky, more signy!"

Rosemary came prepared with postcard advertisements for Crypt, and when we ran out of books, we started handing those out, signed by all three of us. Mostly, we'd say "Well, we're out of books, but take one of these!!!"

Jaleigh (The Howling Delve) wasn't at PAX (long commute), but we were hoping there would be a box of her books so we could sign them "From JJ" by proxy. :)

When I got to the convention proper, I was totally geeked out, but in a "cool" way. PAX seems to be *cooler* than GenCon, and I think that's partly because video games are still more socially acceptable than tabletop games, so the people who play them are just ordinary people. It was less of a "go to a convention with all the social recluses" and more of a "go to a convention with all the cool kids." I'm pleased to see the shift, only because I'm glad to see gaming get its proper due and recognition as a cool thing to do, McCain staffers' opinions notwithstanding. :)

And last but definitely not least, I met Jenna Helland, the noted author of the Fanged Crown, the first Wilds book. Jenna has been a bit of a mystery to the online FR fanbase, but I'll just say--from what I garnered about her from our meeting and chat--that we're all in for a treat. Welcome, Jenna, to the wild Realms! :)

Cheers

[info]rosemaryjones.blogspot.com: Always sit closest to the door

I think you had more books towards the end because you were farthest away from the door. It just took people a few more steps to get to you. Also I was getting into my carny voice mode: "Heya, wanta free book, just step up to the midway!"

Had a great time signing - you might want to check out the post at my blog too for a picture of one cool kid at the WOTC booth. Now if I'd only remembered the camera during the book signing!

Cheers,
Rosemary
who will still send signed bookplates or postcards to anyone who e-mails her.

Neat. I must admit, "Fanged Crown" sounds kinda intriguing. And I'm curious to see how Jenna Helland's foray into the Realms will go.
